The Minister of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications Georgi Todorov and the Director General of NKZI Eng. Krassimir Papukchiyski launched the modernization of the railway section Orizovo-Mikhailovo, part of the large-scale project “Rehabilitation of the railway line Plovdiv-Burgas, Phase 2”.
“The implementation of the project activities will double the entire 37 km long section. The railway section between Orizovo and Mihailovo will be constructed in its majority on a new track and will allow train speeds of 160 km/h. Within the project, a new track, overhead contact line and tunnel with a length of 835 meters will be built, as well as the construction of a new reception building at Orizovo station and the rehabilitation of the existing Chirpan station,” announced Eng. Krassimir Papukchiyski during today’s ceremony.
The overall modernisation of this important railway section will improve European connections with Bulgaria and will contribute to increasing the competitiveness of rail transport through higher speeds, safety and higher quality services.
The activities under the contract are to be completed within 49 months and include design and construction and its value is BGN 217 982 167,08 excluding VAT. The contractor of the project is the SEZP “Euro Railway Infrastructure”, including the companies “Infrastructural Construction” AD and “Marco Obra Publica” AD.
The project “Modernization of railway section Orizovo-Mikhailovo” is part of the project “Rehabilitation of the railway line Plovdiv-Burgas, Phase 2” and is implemented with co-financing from the Cohesion Fund through Operational Programme on Transport and Transport Infrastructure 2014-2020.
