Project Description
Emergency Restoration Works following a Derailment at Dupnitsa Station
Construction - Group 2, Category 1
On January 23, 2016, a freight train derailed at Dupnitsa Station, resulting in the destruction of approximately 300 meters of railway tracks and three railway switches. The railway infrastructure, combined with a lack of drainage, consisted of numerous unusable broken rails and sleepers, damaged rail pads, and non-functioning fastenings, making it impossible for railway vehicles to operate in this section of the throat track at Dupnitsa Station. This situation has caused disruptions to the train schedule on the Sofia-Kulata 5th railway line. In order to restore normal operation at Dupnitsa Station, the following emergency restoration activities need to be carried out:
1. Demolition and installation of existing railway tracks, type 49 kg/m, using the link method on the 4th wagon from switch No. 10.
2. Demolition and installation of existing railway tracks, type 49 kg/m, on a section from switch No. 14 to switch No. 22 and a section between switch No. 12 and switch No. 14.
3. Demolition of switch No. 12 and installation of a new railway track in its place.
4. Demolition of switch No. 14 (double-curved) and installation of a new switch in its place.
5. Demolition of switch No. 16 (left) and installation of a new switch in its place.
6. Replacement of the left frog of switch No. 10.
7. Construction of a 350mm drain pipe to the nearest drainage point at Dupnitsa Station.
